Terms of service

  • Gearshop Hire require the primary hirer to present a NZ drivers licence or passport when booking. The primary hirer must be a responsible adult over the age of 18.
  • By hiring our products, you agree to use them responsibly and return them in the same condition as provided. Any misuse, damage, or failure to return hired items may result in recovery actions, including seeking compensation for losses. We reserve the right to use the information provided during the hire process to address any breaches of these terms.
  • As the primary hirer you are responsible for all loss or damage to the equipment. Equipment lost, stolen or damaged will be charged for at replacement cost.
  • An impression of the primary hirer's credit card is required in case of loss, theft or damage to equipment rented. 
  • Overdue returns will be charged for. Please remember that someone else may be waiting to hire your gear.
  • All gear must be returned clean. We do not mind if gear is returned damp, but a cleaning charge will apply if gear is returned dirty.
  • Every care is taken in the fitting and maintenance of our equipment, but we do not accept responsibility for injury to people using our rental equipment. By entering an agreement to hire from us, you understand that activities that require the use of hire goods may be physically demanding and that there is inherent risk of injury.
  • You release Gearshop Hire and its staff from any liability for the following: any injury to person(s) and damage to any belongings while participating in activities that require hire goods.
  • Make sure your rental fits the opening dates and hours of your chosen store. Our pickup locations are closed on public holidays - if your hire period includes a public holiday, please allow extra time for delivery or returns, and contact us in advance to arrange an early pickup or alternative plan. 
    • For Via Ferrata Gear, it must be returned to Gearshop on the day it is hired to either the Richmond or Bolt Road stores unless previously arranged.
    • For other products, we charge by the night, with discounts for longer rentals. Your gear will be ready for you to pick up from 3pm on your selected pickup date.  Whenever you can, aim to bring your rental back to the same store you picked it up from during their opening hours on your selected Return Date. If needed, we’re happy to accept returns until 10am the next morning, as long as the store is open then. If you need to return your rental to a different store, please let us know ahead of time so we can arrange to relocate the gear and get it ready for the next customer. Late fees will apply if not returned on time.
  • For shipped orders, if your shipping overlaps a weekend, please remember that courier delivery times refer to working days only. Gear shipped on a Friday may not arrive until the following week. For peace of mind, get in touch with us to check the timing or arrange earlier delivery.
    • Unfortunately, we are unable to ship to PO Boxes or Private Bags. This is because tracking shipments to these locations is challenging, and many of our products are too large to fit in them, causing potential delays at Post Shops. Additionally, couriers charge a significant surcharge for deliveries to PO Boxes or Private Bags. To ensure a smooth and timely delivery, please provide an alternate physical address. Thank you for your understanding!
  • Cancellations - If you cancel your booking, the security bond would be returned in full.  However the following cancellation fee would apply to the remaining cost of the hire.
    • 10% over 7 days before booking start date
    • 50% within 7 days
    • 75% within 48 hours
    • 100% within 24 hours
